View from Newland's Corner, Guildford

Hello! My name is Gabriel Buist and I am a retired university lecturer. I worked in the Chemistry Department of the University of Surrey which is located in Guildford, Surrey, England. I live in Burpham, just outside Guildford. My beloved wife, Rosemary, passed away in May 2002. Our two sons are David and Ian. David lives in Tokyo and works at the University there. He is an anthropologist and as a hobby enjoys composing music (see his website). Ian lives in Ventura, California and works in Santa Barbara with a title deed company. He is married to Rowena, a beautiful Filipino lady (see wedding photo).

The great event in our family in 2007 was the birth of my first grandchild, a daughter for Ian and Rowena, in June. Her name is Caitlyn Rosemary and she is a happy, bonny baby (see photo of her with her parents).

I am very concerned about the environment and the treatment of animals. I am a life-long vegetarian (vegan for the last 15 years). I belong to the International Vegetarian Union, the Vegetarian Society of the UK and Viva! I am interested in astronomy, computing and photography, and I have a deep interest in Religion and its relationship with Science. Much of my time is devoted to the work of the Order of the Cross, the Christian Fellowship to which I belong.

I enjoy travelling and I have been round the world several times visiting both my sons as well as many friends in North and South America, New Zealand and Australia.
